The following models or methods are for explanation purposes only.

Behaviour Therapy

Behavior therapy stems out of evidence based therapy often initated in experimental psychology with the firm belief of what has been learned can be unlearned.  It is more popular, effective for children and specially for children with ADHD or behavior problems.  It often consists of rewards and punishments, designing a structure and follow or enforce through individual or in support of the collateral resources like the family.  Behavior therapy is also used in adults and most therapists use them because of the measurable objectives that brings symptom reduction or problem resolution in  quantitative terms.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

In cognitive behavioral therapy, emphasis is placed on understanding – cognition thereby giving rise to the reduction of the problem, while still using the behavior reinforcers.  Cognitive Behavior therapy is very popular and works well for certain problems like DEPRESSION, ANXIETY etc.  Examples of CBT are wide and varied in clinical applications and some clinicians including Tri State Counseling use tools like BECK DEPRESSION INVENTORY II and other tools.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

Pioneered by Marsha Linehan, DBT combines those high risk behaviors that often result from invaliidated environments and some biological causes (yet unexplored) and effective in self injurious or suicide behaviors exhibited by those suffering from BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER or BIPOLAR DISORDERS.  In present day, it is applied for a wide range of problems where there is a high risk of suicide or other self injurious behavior.  It is also used in SUBSTANCE ABUSE and EATING DISORDERS as well.  The main focus of DBT lies combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness practice, acceptance-based principles and dialectical strategies with the purpose of addressing life-threatening and self-harming behaviors, behaviors that interfere with therapy, major quality of life issues and the acquisition of life skills.

Conversational Model

This model uses the notion of “self” and lecture, often attributed to Prof. Emeritus Russell Meares.   He takes us to the genesis of the Conversational Model that has its fundamental core built around the notion of ’personal being’ or ‘self‘. He explains how different forms of conversations generate different brain states that in turn sustain and underlie different kind of consciousness fostering fundamental changes.

Appreciative Theory

Yishai Shalif explores in this presentation the core principles of the appreciative theory, where Life is ‘multi-storied’, where language controls reality and constructs identity. Depending on the questions one asks oneself, reality is created. Positive inquiry invites a positive reality and with it positive changes.

Human beings are conceived as choice makers:  the choices for change. The appreciative inquiry tries to tap into the creativity of humans, in their potential of imagining the future.  Helpful in dealing with artists, writers and creative thinker treatments.

Psychodynamic Model

The ever changing environment and people through childhood and its impact as well as expected and unexpected changes in life are often analyzed and interpreted to the clients.  Psychodynamic model was very popular in one time, replaced by CBT or DBT and other techniques.

TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS, PSYCHOANALYSIS AND OTHER SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES: Tri State Counseling does not use traditional or neo-classical psychoanalysis but sometimes, a clinician may use some aspects such as exploring childhood experiences or transactional analysis of P A C MODEL.

P for PARENT

A for ADULT

C for CHILD

When transactions are parallel in communication, things go well. While cross transactions create difficulty, confusion and anger.

CAVEAT: All the models described above have their own copyrighted hold on the theory, interpretation and they are discussed here for understanding only. TRI STATE COUNSELING does not have any copyright on these models or theories.
